The Climate


The tourist town of Nainital situated in the Indian state of Uttarakhand is the headquarters of Nainital District in the outer Himalayas. Situated at an altitude of 1,938 meters (6,358 feet) above sea level, this town with its beauteous splendour is one of the most famous tourist places of the country. Nainital has moderate summers, maximum temperature 27 °C (81 °F); minimum temperature 10 °C (50 °F), and extreme winters with minimum subzero temperatures.

You should bring adequate clothing suitable for Nainital (Kumaun), which has cold winters and moderate summers. Climate during the winters is very cold. Woolens are a must in all seasons. An umbrella or raincoat is essential from June-October.
